Hi! I’m Kate.

I grew up in Richmond, VA, where the summers are hot and sticky. After I graduated from James Madison University a bachelor’s in English, I split my time between an editorial internship with Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill and a dreamy gig as a bookseller at a beloved local indie, Quail Ridge Books. With lightning-strike luck, I landed an NYC publishing job at Random House in the adult publicity department, where I worked with New York Times bestselling authors Lee Child and Sophie Kinsella, among others.

I made the switch to children’s in 2015, where I learned all about the agenting side of the business. Then I hit the jackpot again with a job in the editorial department at Bloomsbury Children’s Books under the tutelage of New York Times bestselling editor Annette Pollert-Morgan. There I had the privilege of working with legendary authors Shannon Hale, Sarah J. Maas, Nikki Grimes, Steven Salvatore, and Leah Thomas, among others. I’ve been freelance editing since 2017 to supplement the abysmal publishing salaries, learning and growing as an editor along the way with practice and mentorship.

The bottom line: I love stories with all my heart. With a listening ear and a keen eye for language and story development, I can help you whip your book into publishable shape while staying true to your authorial voice. It’s your story; it should stay that way.

I now live in Brooklyn, NY with my husband and our cat, Neville, where I freelance edit, write for nonprofits, run, read, and daydream.
